Writing for Science
A major goal of this course is the development of effective technical writing skills.
This course consists of seminars and practical writing.
The seminars introduce students to general topics related to writing a research paper.
Students will apply the knowledge gained through the seminars to their work in the laboratory, field or clinical setting.
Students are expected to work closely with their research/clinical supervisor to produce a journal quality paper at the end of the semester.
3 credits
Research Internship
Students conduct independent research under the guidance of a research scientist(s).
All research projects are unique -- not repetition of other people's work.
Research projects vary each year depending on student interest and the current research direction of participating laboratories.
The precise path of scientific inquiry is determined through a joint effort between the student and the scientist mentor.
Students become part of the research team by contributing data obtained from their experiments to the overall study conducted in the laboratory.
6 credits during semester; 3 credits during summer
