Knowledge Exchange Institute

The Knowledge Exchange Institute (KEI) was founded in 1997 as a New York State educational corporation, on the belief that study abroad should go beyond liberal arts education and cultural exchange to include discipline-specific studies and professional development. KEI's study abroad and intern abroad programs are designed to meet your academic, professional and personal interests. Students can take courses in their major as well as in liberal arts, learn a language, participate in internships and community service, and explore world cultures.

What makes KEI programs unique?

  • COURSES YOU NEED...
We don't just say it - we do it. KEI offers more courses in more academic majors and minors than any other study abroad provider. Courses in foreign languages, area studies and liberal arts are also offered.

  • ENGLISH LANGUAGE...
There is NO foreign language requirement to apply for any program. Courses are taught in English. Some program locations also offer courses taught in the language of the host country. Offering programs in English makes study abroad more accessible to students. However, we strongly encourage students to learn the host language and become fully integrated in the host culture.

  • INTERNSHIPS & COMMUNITY SERVICE...
Internships are an optional component of KEI programs. KEI offers four types of internships: professional, clinical, research and community service.

  • AFFORDABLE PROGRAMS...
KEI offers affordable comprehensive study and intern abroad programs. Our programs offer the best cost-to-benefit ratio (what you get for the money). Don't take our word for it: compare!! We are able to deliver high quality programs at a lower price through fiscal management, long-lasting relationships and leveraging resources in the USA and abroad. All this means savings for our students.

Students can use their university financial aid to pay all or part of the KEI program fee. In addition, KEI offers scholarships, grants and interest-free payment plans for qualified students.

  • CULTURAL INTEGRATION...
Whenever possible, KEI students are integrated in courses, internships and/or housing with students from the host country. KEI also plans cultural activities and excursions throughout the program. That means more interaction with local students and community, better language acquisition and enhanced cultural awareness.

  • SMALL & DIVERSE GROUPS...
KEI programs limit enrollment to 25 students. Most programs range from 8 to 15 students per term. Having small groups allows us to customize programs to suit individual needs, help ensure safety and provide a more personalized experience. KEI strives for diversity in its groups. Our students come from different ethnic backgrounds and geographic locations.

  • KEI SERVICE...
KEI helps you throughout the entire process, from assistance with course approval and credit transfer, to financial aid, to the type of clothes to bring. Our services include:
    • Personalized advising
    • Predeparture guides and support
    • On-site support

    • Use of mobile phone
    • Housing and logistical assistance
