Symbiosis International University
COURSE SELECTION
Courses are offered at Symbiosis International University (SIU).
During the semester, program participants are integrated with Indian and international students from around the world.
Courses are taught in English.
Most courses at SIU are 3 to 4 credits (45 to 60 contact hours).
The
Indian Studies Seminar and
Hindi/Marathi Language are required. All other courses are optional.
India's education system is based on the British model.
As such, academic terminology is different from that used in the USA.

A survey course of Indian society and culture.
India's politics, economy, art and literature are also investigated from a historical perspective and discussed in light of future development.

Hindi Language (Beginer)
Hindi is a modern Indo-Aryan language spoken in South Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Nepal) and also in other countries outside Asia (Mauritius, Trinidad, Fiji, Surinam, Guyana, South Africa and other countries).
Approximately six hundred million people speak Hindi, as either a first or second language.
It is ranked among the five most widely spoken languages of the world.
This Hindi course, for beginners, is designed to develop aural ability, oral facility, reading and comprehension.

Hindi Language (Intermediate)
Continuation of Hindi Language.
3 credits. Prerequisites: Hindi Language (Beginer) or equivalent
Marathi Language (Beginer)
Marathi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Marathi people of western India.
It is the official language of the state of Maharashtra.
There are 90 million fluent speakers worldwide.
Marathi is the 4th most spoken language in India and the 15th most spoken language in the world.
This Marathi course, for beginners, is designed to develop aural ability, oral facility, reading and comprehension.
